- Covers all the experiments - know glassware, concepts used/taught, common procedures
- 70 multiple choice (4 possible answers for each - 1 correct response)
- Periodic Table & constants given
What to memorize:
NOTE: Do NOT spend large amounts of time on this at the expense of content
- Polyatomic ions - from the beginning of the semester, esp. those from Chem 2
- Solubility Rules (p149)
- Nitrates, Acetates, Ammonium, Li+/Na+/K+ - always soluble
- Halides soluble except w/ Pb2+, Ag1+, Hg22+
- Sulfate soluble except w/ Ca2+, Sr2+, Ba2+ , Ag+, Pb2+
- Carbonates & Phosphates are insoluble (except w/ Ammonium, Li+/Na+/K+)
- Equations - be able to solve problems similar to the end of the chapter, know the following formula as well
- D=m/V
- Electronegativities - don't need the actual numbers but will need to know the trend (up/down, across)
- VSEPR shapes (p408)
How to Study:
- Review Lecture notes - identify main ideas & difficult sections, do NOT neglect Chap 1-4!
- Review Achieve/End of Chapter problems (focus on section based questions)
- Take this Exam Practice - answers are on the last page
- Make a plan!
- Do 3 "passes" 1st: Material that is most difficult, 2nd: Material you can do but should/practice & review to know it well, 3rd: Material that is easiest
- Know what chapters you will do each day so you don't run out of time or expect too much out of the days just before the exam.
- Come with specific questions (from Achieve, End of Chapter Questions, or Tests/Quizzes) or general topics you want me to explain again.
- Review ACS Chemistry Olympiad released exams (more helpful for 2nd semester - but helps you learn the style of the test)
(note: you do not know all the information covered in these tests)
