2nd Semester: Grading & Important Dates

This semester's point values will be:

  • Lab Notebook    100pts  (17%)
  • Quizzes               40pts   (7%)
  • Tests                   300pts  (50%)
  • Reflect. Writing   20pts  (3%)
  • Exam                  140pts  (23%) or more
    the exam % will replace your lowest test score if it is better

Lab Notebook

  • 7 experiments each worth 10pts
  • 2 activities (Exp 3: Modeling Kinetics & Spreadsheets) each worth 5pts
  • Practicum worth 20pts - you will be expected to read a buret, correctly dilute a solution & record an absorbance on a colorimeter, perform a titration (using Vernier pH probe) and analyze the titration curve.

Quizzes

  • 4 quizzes each covering two chapters
  • each quiz will have a problem from each chapter similar to End of Chapter Problems - 5pts for each problem
  • NO notes are allowed 

Tests 

  • 3 Tests each worth 100pts
  • TEST 1 - Ch 11 - 14:    Feb 26, 2019
  • TEST 2 - Ch 15 - 17:    March 26, 2019
  • TEST 3 - Ch 18,19,24:  April 30, 2019

Exam

  • on Wed May 15 (which is going to be a Tues schedule) 1:20 - 3:20pm
  • ACS (American Chemical Society) college level test
  • 70 multiple choice - 110 min
  • each worth 2pts

Reflection Writing - upload by 3pm Thurs May 16, 2019

  • 3pts for quality & being on time for each of the 3 initial writings, 11pts for final writing
  • Using the Reflection Writing experiences, turn in a final reflective paper - 10pt font, double-spaced.
  • Cover your reflections of:  God's Power, Patterns in Nature, and Creation's Potential
  • Refer to at least 3 college chemistry topics in each section.
